The Cosmo Dragoon is Complete.

Almost two months after the start of the project I can finally say that this one is done and over with. Got the last of the pieces trimmed up and painted for it and a holster put together.

Dragoon painting part 2

Got a bit more assembly and work done on this. Not much noteworthy but I think it looks a ton better with a barrel on it.

Painting the dragoon. Part 1

I spent my free time today relaxing and working on getting the dragoon painted up for my personal harlock costume.

Quick update 11/19/10

So I've been busy with the move but I still managed to get some work done on the dragoon. All but one of the molds are now poured, and I should be getting around to that last one tomorrow. I'm hoping to have body castings pumped out by mid next week. Gotta gear up and get things done for ALA.

Quick update 10/25/2010

I've been busy with packing and moving but I've still managed to find some time here and there to work on things. I ordered the rubber for the cosmo dragoons this morning and hopefully that will be arriving soon. I should have the master for the finished up in the next few days, just a few more things to add to it.

EDIT: Cylinder fell over today and the cocking lever broke off. Get to spend tonight fixing that up before I go any further. FUN FUN! I've also decided that in light of recent additions to tools that I have access to I am going to be reviving the Darkwatch Redeemer Build.

Weekly Update 10/16/2010

Despite previous notions of things getting easier after I finished the ME Shotgun, I've been keeping busy steadily for the past few weeks. I realize that I have roughly 80 Days till ALA and three costumes to get done between now and then. Ive been cranking down on the Cosmo Dragoon. Got the vector done for it, printed, and have already started to assemble the parts of the frame.

Weekly Update 10/6/2010

Well it has been a busy week for me so far. Once I got the Mass Effect shotgun out the door I hit the ground running on my own costume work. I got parts of the belt buckles made for my Captain Harlock costume and did some aging and detail work on a viking sword. Hopefully the rest of this week will be just as productive.

Weekly Update 9/26/2010

So I've been super busy with costume related things the past few weeks since I got back from Seattle. In the past week I've carved almost all of the ME shotgun parts to completion and got the Grand Galactic Inquisitor helmet to the plastercloth stage.

Weekly update 8/30/2010

So not much to update. Got a wild bug to make something for fun and this is the result. The Grand Galactic Inquisitor helmet. Needs some plaster-cloth and paint, but other than that its mostly done.

Other than that I'm getting the final things into my bag for PAX and will be heading out the door in just one more day!

For those who dont know who this is go have a look here

Weekly update 8/23/2010

It has been a slow week for the most part, but I got some work done on the ME shotgun and bought a new band-saw for the shop.

This thing is going to take a long while to sand and assemble but I hope to have it done by the end of next week, and if not done in the first few days after I get back from PAX.

Convention reviews are GOOOOOOOO

So considering I'm going to be going to a bunch of conventions in the near future I decided to start up a blog for con reviews and the such. If you're interested in that you can find it HERE.

Its going to be awesome to get out of the shop for a while, however I'm sure I'll miss the comfort of the familiar. Hopefully when I get back I'll be able to find a miter saw and bandsaw for the shop and get things underway on some furniture construction.

Commission Time

So it has been a long while since my last update, which I'm not too happy about. Things have been super hectic around here, and with the recent loss of my job I've been scrambling to find sources of income. So now it seems that I'm going to be doing this prop thing full time until at least the spring of next year. This is a double edged sword, as its a chance to do something that I love, but the income is also unstable. Hence there are going to be a few changes around here.

First and foremost I'm going to be updating here weekly. This will help me to stay on track with commissions and let both current and prospective clients know what to expect. That and I think its cool to see things go from reference to reality step by step, but that may just be the nerd in me.

Second, I will be making a commissions calendar of sorts, with a waiting list. This will help me to plan out the year and what will get worked on first. That way everyone gets their props in time and I don't end up with an angry mob outside my front door. For now I'm going to set up 2 slots per month until the end of February 2011, so if you want to hop in on a slot shoot me an e-mail and we'll get you quoted and slotted. My goal is to fill slots for props so that they will be finished at least a month and a half before they are needed by the client, so that if anything comes up the prop still arrives on time.

Next, I'm going to try to get a friend of my who is studying film to record and upload some videos of the shop and shop work, so you can see what the process actually looks like. We'll see if this actually happens as I'm super shy.

Onward to actual progress!

The rotocaster has see a bit more work in the past months, both frames have been bolted in and I'm now waiting on picking up the gears and drive chain for it, after which it should be good to go. As soon as I get this thing up and running I'll be doing a few runs of various helmets, which I will post as I get them molded.

The Rickenbacker however has sadly been on the back burner as its a NFP project, but once I get things stabilized I'll hop back on that some more.

NEW Mass Effect Katana Shotgun: This is a project for a client who will be cosplaying as Tali at NYCC. Its probably going to be one of the hardest scratchbuilds I'll ever do as there are almost no reference shots of it to be found. I got it all vectored out and will be cutting out the base pieces from some MDF sometime this week.

Rotocaster and a Bass Guitar

It has been a very busy month. Ive been trying to get more work done out in the shop, but the projects I've been working on have gone very slowly. Most of my time over the past month has been dedicated to building two things: A Rickenbacker 4003 Left handed bass guitar, and a rotocasting frame. Both projects have been a ton of fun, but the bass looks like its going to get put on the back burner until the rotocaster is completed as the need for it seems to be increasing greatly as the year rolls on. I shall post more pictures and possibly a video or two once I get everything in working order

Digging up old projects

So I decided to dig up an older project of mine and made some serious progress on it. The mask was a horrible cast and needed a TON of cleanup. I had to spend an hour or so in the garage with the dremel cleaning it up but I got it done. I also started to clay up a MGS-style USP pistol to be cast out of rubber for MG cosplayers who attend cons with strict weapons policies.
